This blog will be used to chronicle my adventures in Sri Lanka

So earlier in the week I turned on the light in by bedroom and guess what I saw crawling around on the wall. Any guesses? I was pleasantly surprised to see a gecko darting around on my wall. It was a good thing I heard about them earlier in the day or I might have freaked out. I couldn't believe how fast that thing moved. I tried my best to get a photo of it but I was no match for the speed of my Gecko Roman. Now I have a mascot!

Anyway, things have gone good here for the first week. We have already delivered 3 face-to-face trainings to the staff at the National Institute of Education. All of them went pretty well. The first one was all about Moodle and how it can be used to facilitate online learning and foster communities of practice. It went good but one of my co-presenters might have jinxed it a bit by leading off talking about Murphy's Law. The logins for the site proceeded to give us many problems and ate up lots of time. Seems like nobody have ever used the site like we were so 24 people logging on at the same time was a bit much for the infrastructure. Ultimately it is a good thing though. Test now that way when the kids have to use it they are good to go after the IT folks do their thing. As a matter of fact, they were quick to get the problems fixed and we were good to go on Friday. We didn't do much Moodle on Friday. One of the technical SMEs presented Silverlight and how to do some simple development with its tools. Neat stuff.

Next week there are not going to be any workshops just prep. We have the current cohort online so I am doing some online facilitation. Next week I will also work with SMEs to develop some presentations on Web 2.0 Technologies. It should be lots of fun. The people at NIE are very excited about this stuff and they are anxious to get more instruction. I only hope all the folks in the provinces are just as excited. We also have a team leader coming on board next week. He's a Canadian who is currently in the Philippines. I am excited to meet him. He has quite the reputation in the Distance Education Field.
